Most people have dreams - or nightmares - of going to work or school in their pyjamas – but one group of children did just that to raise money for a hospice’s campaign.

Pupils from Fortismere School, in Tetherdown, Muswell Hill, wore their onesies, slippers and dressing gowns to lessons as part of the North London Hospice’s Fund a Bed campaign.

The hospice, which has branches in Woodside Avenue, Finchley, and Barrowell Green, Winchmore Hill, is asking people to spend the day in their pyjamas, take a selfie and donate to their cause.

Year 9 student Adam Ramgoolie said: “I thought the fund a bed day was really great. The turn-out was amazing and it was great to dress up and not really care what others thought of you.

“I loved the fact that so many people were getting together to help terminally ill people and that more than 600 people donated.

“It is nice to see people in our school really trying to make a difference for others and taking time off as well as getting up early to ensure that they can.”

They raised a total of £700, which will be used to pay for new beds for the hospices inpatient units.

Tara Steeds, who is in Year 12, said: "It was really enjoyable raising money and awareness for such an amazing cause.

“The North London Hospice is an incredible charity whose work ensures people have a peaceful end to their life and that is why I was keen to get involved.

“Raising more than £700 is a great achievement and I'm really happy that it's going to a great cause."

Headteacher Helen Anthony said: “Facing your own, or a loved one’s end of life is an incredibly hard and sad thing to have to do.

“We have chosen to support the NLH because they work tirelessly to optimise the quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses and provide specialist care to patients and their families.

“They do incredible work, and we, as part of the North London community, want to thank and support them.”
