Concerns have been raised after a GP surgery in East Finchley announced it will close one of its branches.

The High Road surgery, run by Dr Isaacson and Partners, will close next Tuesday.

A spokesman for NHS England said it is because the building is unsuitable and it is impractical for the practice to run two GP surgeries.

Patients have been told they can transfer to the practice’s main surgery in Muswell Hill, or can re-register with one of three other GP surgeries in East Finchley.

But Dorothea McEwan, who has used the surgery for the past 37 years, is worried about the impact the closure will have on health services in the area.

The 74-year-old registered with another GP in East Finchley, as she said Muswell Hill was too difficult for her to reach by bus.

She said: “I am an elderly grandmother walking with a stick, and I look after my granddaughter who is four. I don’t want to use a bus when I am ill or my granddaughter is ill.

“There used to be six surgeries in East Finchley and now there are three. It’s a very overpopulated area and we need another surgery. I have registered with another but it increases their patient numbers. It was difficult enough to get an appointment before and it will be more difficult.

“The surgeries have shrunk and the population has increased. I cannot see why there has not been anything done about it. To close a surgery is no solution.”

A spokesman for NHS England said: “We are satisfied that the surgery has undertaken the correct process in engaging with patients about this closure through a consultation process.

“Patients who use the branch surgery can access service at the practices main site in Muswell Hill and do not need to re-register. Those who choose not to remain registered with the practice have a choice of three other practices within half a mile radius of the branch surgery and five further practices within a mile.”
