WHILE family and friends gathered last Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day, Janet Miller was 'mother' to the 14 children who attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St Albans.
As the person responsible for the children aged between three to 11-years-old at the local St Albans branch, Janet, along with her team of other volunteer mums, plans and teaches weekly activities based on Christ-like principles for the children.
Last week the regular Sunday service was altered to include a special emphasis on mums.
Janet, Jane and Joyce and their teachers had the busiest time of all the mums, teaching their normal classes and organising a special children's choir which sang to the entire congregation.
Janest said: "The children sang beautifully, and everyone enjoyed the service."
Teenage girls handed out small posies to all the women in the congregation, while a young man read out a poem.
Speaking after the event, Paul Elvidge, Bishop of the St Albans congregation, said: "We believe that all of us take part in raising our children, and building strong families, so Mother's Day is a special day for honouring all women, not just those with children."
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has over 12,560,000 members worldwide. Members of the St Albans congregation have family services from 10 - 1pm every Sunday at Ridgemont Road, St.Albans.
