LABOUR is to press for a public inquiry into the Clostridium difficile hospital bug which has hit patients at several Scottish hospitals.
The call will be made in the Scottish Parliament by Labour health spokeswoman Margaret Curran.
She will tell MSPs the case for public inquiry is supported by families who lost loved ones in an outbreak at the Vale of Leven Hospital in West Dunbartonshire, and by microbiologist Professor Hugh Pennington.
In that outbreak the bug was the primary cause of nine deaths and a contributory factor in a further nine.
Since then, patients have been struck by the bug at the Royal Alexandra Infirmary in Paisley and at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.
Ms Curran said: "I hope that every MSP will consider the views of families when they vote in today's debate."
