A father and son teamed up to take part in the Paris Marathon to raise money for disabled children.

Tim O’Donovan, 52, a construction worker from Oakhurst Avenue, in Oakleigh Park, completed the run on Sunday for Get Kids Going, a charity which provides sports wheelchairs and grants to disabled children.

He completed it in three hours and 33 minutes, raising £150 for the charity.

His son Gavin, 25, joined him for 18 miles as a warm up for the London Marathon on April 26, which he is running for the charity Whizz-Kidz charity, having raised more than £1,600 so far.

Tim said: “It went very well, I couldn’t have wanted it to go any better. 35,000 people took part, it was a great atmosphere.

“It was a last minute thing, and I thought what better charity than for kids? I have four healthy children of my own, and I thought I should do it for those more disadvantaged. If it gives them a little bit of help, happiness and comfort, then it’s been worthwhile.”
