A church pastor welcomed Prime Minister David Cameron to the stage at a Christian festival.

Pastor Agu Irukwu, the senior pastor of Jesus House, in Brent Terrace, Brent Cross, took part in the Festival of Life which was held at the ExCeL centre in London.

Mr Cameron, who is currently in the middle of his campaign trail ahead of the General Election on May 8, stopped in to meet Pastor Irukwu and other guests.

Pastor Irukwu is also the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the UK's fastest growing church.

Pastor Agu Irukwu said: "We were very pleased to have the Prime Minister with us. We appreciate that this is a very busy time for him, as it is for all politicians, in the run up to our general elections on May 7.

“His attendance is a clear indication of the growing influence of not just the RCCG network and the black majority churches, but of the church community in general.

“This partnership between the government and the church is critical to the spiritual and social transformation of our nation."

Mr Cameron said: “Let us be proud that this is a Christian country where we stand for the freedom to practise your faith and where we stand up for Christians and all those who are persecuted anywhere in our world."

The event was also attended by Stephen Timms, Shadow Minister for Employment.
