Synagogues will open their doors for donations of children’s clothes and writing materials.

Several synagogues, including Borehamwood and Elstree, and Edgware and Pinner synagogues, will open on Sunday to receive bags of childrens’ clothing and stationery.

The collectathon is being organised by Jewish Child’s Day and Goods For Good.

Melanie Klass, Jewish Child’s Day executive director, said: “The timing is fantastic. As we spring clean our homes and clear our unwanted goods we can be sure that the goods are being sent to children’s homes in Israel, many of which are projects that Jewish Child’s Day currently support.”

After being delivered to the synagogues, the goods will be collected and taken to a central warehouse where they will be packaged up by a group of volunteers and sent to Israel to be distributed to a number of children’s homes, who have specifically requested the charity’s help.

Ms Klass added: “The wonderful thing about this exciting project is that everybody can play a part in this fantastic initiative whether it’s clearing out unwanted clothes and stationery, volunteering at your local synagogue or the KIDS4KIDS central warehouse or helping raise funds to sponsor a lorry to deliver the goods to Israel.”

Clothes should be in good condition. For full details on participating shuls, what goods the charities are looking for and the different ways to help, visit www.jcd.uk.com
