Staff at a care centre for disabled adults were “over the moon” after securing funding for new equipment.
The Rosa Morison day centre, in Gloucester Road, New Barnet, received the money for Smartbox’s Eye Gaze kit, worth more than £7,000, from the Barnet Homes innovation fund.
Centre manager Richard Buckman said: “Receiving funding for this has been fantastic for us, I am over the moon for clients. It creates so much more opportunity for them as it enables users to communicate with us when they can’t physically.”
The equipment enables disabled people to use controls on a computer screen with their eyes.
Becky Beedles, a speech and language therapist at Barnet Learning Disability Service, said: “It’s really great to see how the clients are engaging with the screen and enjoying it – they’ve got huge smiles on their faces from being able to activate the videos.”
