Hundreds gathered for a charity football tournament in memory of a murdered schoolboy.

Kiyan Prince was fatally stabbed outside the London Academy in Spur Road, Edgware in May 2006.

The 15-year-old was a promising footballer who played for the Queen’s Park Rangers under-16 team.

His father Mark Prince set up the Kiyan Prince Foundation in his memory, to help reduce street violence among youths.

The foundation held a five-a-side football tournament and family fun day at Power League, in Pursley Road, Mill Hill, on Sunday to mark the ninth anniversary of Kiyan’s death.

Mr Prince said: “It was brilliant. There were wonderful vibes and a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed it. Everyone made an effort and it showed.

“We achieved our objectives to remember Kiyan by playing football and to get the community together. We believe the community needs to come together to take back our streets, and have fun and get to know each other.

“We are trying to bring back the old school family community vibe. That’s what is missing.”

Steve Wayne, from Benjamin Stevens Estate Agent, which helped organise the day, said: “It was very successful. We had ten teams play in the end. It worked out really well. 200 people were there.

“Some of the QPR players were there, and some of the boys he went to school with. The football was very competitive but it was good fun, and really quite a good standard.

“I don’t think we could have asked for more from the day. We are now looking to make it a yearly thing.”
