Teenagers touched by the earthquakes in Nepal raised more than £2,000 to help those affected rebuild their lives.

Students at Bishop Douglass High School, in Hamilton Road, East Finchley, raised £2,448 by holding cake sales and car washes to support CAFOD’s Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

More than eight million people have been affected by the two major earthquakes in the past four weeks, with more than 8,000 people killed and 2.8 million forced to leave their homes.

Year 12 student Diana said: “When we saw the news we all wanted to do something, to get involved. As a school we sympathise and empathise with people of Nepal.

“When we started fundraising we found that everyone at school was really keen to help. We organised car washes, cake sales and held collections in school to raise the money.”

Headteacher Martin Tissot said: “During our school Mass last week we heard about loving our neighbour as ourselves. The people in Nepal are our neighbours, and we are praying for everyone affected by this terrible earthquake.

“As a Catholic school we wanted to stand in solidarity and decided to fundraise to help the people of Nepal.”
