The new chairman of a religious group told people to “respect and tolerate” each other after he was sworn in.
Esmond Rosen was elected as the chairman of Barnet’s Multi-Faith Forum at its annual general meeting last week.
Mr Rosen said: “Respect and tolerance are key to our dealings with each other. We are fortunate in living in a free and democratic society where all those of differing beliefs and persuasions are valued and treated with respect.
“These freedoms have been earned and underpin the society in which we live.”
The group welcomes people from all faiths.
After the meeting, Neil Martin and Misba Sheikh, a Jewish man and a Muslim woman, described their recent journey to Srebrenica.
During their trip, they attended a ceremony marking 20 years since the genocide there - in which 8,000 Muslims were killed in 1995.
