Streets were turned into a riotous kaleidoscope of colour at a Latin dance festival.

More than 250 people flocked to The Compton School, in Summers Lane, North Finchley, for an afternoon with dance troupe Latin Soul.

It included stunning displays of hot salsa turns and fast footwork with professional dancers, who sponsored the event.

Mayor of Barnet Mark Shooter and his wife, Melissa, twisted and turned during a special dance performance with Fredy Montero, who runs Latin Soul.

Cllr Shooter said: “This provided an incredible experience for me, and has been one of my favourite events that I have attended since becoming mayor.

“My wife and I left with a smile on our faces having learnt how to Salsa for the first time.

“They are dedicated, enthused and giving both to the community and to the charities that they support.”

Cllr Shooter also gave Latin Soul, which has been running for five years, a certificate to mark their work in supporting charities.

The day was held to raise awareness about the British Heart Foundation, to promote an active lifestyle in children and adults.

People also took part in masterclasses in n salsa, Merengue, zumba, Cha Cha Cha and were given a true flavour of Latin America with special food.

Mr Montero said, “I am so thankful for the incredible ongoing support shown by our local community.

“The turnout was fantastic and both kids and adults had a great time.  Being presented with a certificate was humbling and a great honour.”
