Teenagers who live in a rural village in Israel sampled life on the other side of the globe during their first trip to England.
Youth Aliyah Child Rescue, in Arcadia Avenue, Finchley, which supports ‘at risk’ children, invited the eight boys to Barnet.
They took part on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition with pupils from Hasmonean High School for Boys, in Hendon, and had to navigate their way around rural parts of Hertfordshire.
The group were picked because they have taken part in the International Youth Award for Israel and were presented with certificates by Youth Aliyah Child Rescue president Ella Latchman.
The ceremony was held at Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue and was attended by nearly 200 people.
Charity chairman Melvin Robinson said: “These boys are a shining example of what achievement really means.”
The evening also marked a new partnership between Youth Aliyah Child Rescue, the JLGB and Hasmonean School.
