Little tennis players offered to teach a top sporting manager lessons on how to perfect his serve when he visited their school.

Mike Diaper, the director of community sort at Sport England, toured Goldbeaters School, in Thirleby Road, Burnt Oak.

The school is one of eight in the country to have been awarded the AfPE with distinction award, which recognises schools providing exceptional sports lessons.

Mr Diaper saw a PE lessons in action before meeting with the sports council for a question and answer session.

He told them his favourite sport is rugby and that while he enjoys tennis, he does not know how to play – so pupil Pema offered to teach him.

Year 4 pupil Josh asked whether dodgeball would become an Olympic sport.

Assistant deputy head and PE leader, Catherine Jones, said: “Mike is a warm, passionate, caring man who has done so much amazing work for school sport over the last ten years, which has seen him be awarded an OBE, and is a real credit to Sport in our country.

“The children loved meeting him and he had a truly lovely way with them - clearly interested in what they had to say.”
