Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer has been appointed a Parliamentary Private Secretary to a cabinet member.

The Conservative MP, who was re-elected last month, will serve as a PPS to Chris Grayling, Leader of the House of Commons.

He will assist in delivering the Government’s legislation in the House of Commons, as well as policy on devolution and English votes for English laws.

Mr Freer, who was first elected in 2010, said: “It is a privilege to serve as PPS to the Leader of the House. The Leader of the House of Commons is a varied role, covering all Government departments. Acting as PPS, I will be able to better represent local people and ensure that their concerns are put forward to Ministers.

“I look forward to campaigning on a variety of issues including better healthcare and more school places in Finchley and Golders Green.”

Mr Freer also served as a PPS in the last parliament to Nick Boles, Minister of State for Skills, before resigning in October 2014 over a vote on recognising Palestine.
