Redevelopment plans to help replace a community centre destroyed in an arson attack will go on public display.

The proposals will see the Old Barn Community Centre in Tarling Road, East Finchley, demolished and replaced with a two-storey building.

The new community centre will provide space and facilities for community groups, and a new home for the Somalia Bravanese Welfare Association, to replace the centre the group used in Coppetts Road, Muswell Hill which was destroyed in June 2013.

An exhibition will take place at Martin Primary School, Plane Tree Walk, East Finchley, on Wednesday, July 22 between 4pm and 8pm.

A second one will take place at Ann Owens Centre, in Oak Lane, East Finchley on Saturday, July 25 from 10am to 12.30pm.

People can also comment on the proposals on Barnet council’s website from July 22 to 29.

The planning application is due to be submitted this September.

Deputy leader of Barnet council, Councillor Daniel Thomas, said: “I am very pleased to see the proposals for the new improved community centre are coming along.

“I am looking forward to hearing views from as many local people as possible to how we can we make this centre work for the whole of the community.”

Jon Woolfson, member of the Grange Big Local Partnership Board, said: "Grange Big Local are interested in local community facilities in East Finchley and have funds to invest in line with the wishes of people living, working and volunteering in the area.
