A Barnet scout leader is gearing up to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan.

Alice De Naeyer is one of nearly 1,000 volunteers from the UK who has joined the International Service Team, which spends its summer holiday as the driving force of the jamboree.

Now in its 23rd year, the two week convention involves taking part in adventures, new experiences and meeting new people from around the world all organised by the IST.

The jamboree runs from tomorrow to August 8.

Alice said: “It’s going to be incredible and I just can’t wait to be on site and start making loads of new friends. It’s fab that scouting is giving me this chance to make a difference.”

Nature being a key theme for the jamboree, the rally of scouts attending will be challenged to think about global issues in a new light and learn what they can do to better protect the world we live in.

Chief scout Bear Grylls said: “While lots of people know that Scouting is all about adventure they often don’t realise that adult volunteers get to do just as much as our young members. Scouting is one of the greatest youth movements on earth and why I am so proud to be a part of it.”
