A man managed to overcome his fear of heights – which stops him from going on the London Eye –to jump 13,000 feet for charity.

David Landau, of Edgware, has managed to raise nearly £2,500 for Breast Cancer Care so far after taking part in the tandem skydive on Sunday, August 16 in Chatteris Airfield in Cambridgeshire.

The 59-year-old decided to get involved after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 50th birthday last year.

Mr Landau, a company director of Right Recordings in Harlesden, said: “A lot gets put towards cancer research, but not to those diagnosed with the disease. And the care she got from them was tremendous.

“She was very supportive. I only decided to do it about four weeks ago. She is cured of it now, as far as they can tell.”

Speaking about the skydive, he said: “Bearing in mind I am scared of heights, I was thinking I am not sure I can do this. But as we climbed, I convinced myself we are not going to die, and it is all for a good cause. I didn’t have the bottle to pull out.

“The experience, especially the free fall, was the most phenomenal experience I have ever had. It is something I won’t do again, but it was just a wonderful, wonderful experience. Everything was good from it. It was absolutely rewarding.”
