Pupils are estimated to have beaten last year’s results for GCSEs.

Based on the results so far, approximately 72 per cent of all pupils in Barnet will achieve five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, according to Barnet council.

This would be a 4.5 per cent increase on last year, and is likely to be well above the national average, the authority has said, which was 65.8 per cent in 2014.

Councillor Reuben Thompstone, chairman of the children, education, libraries and safeguarding committee, said: “Congratulations to all those pupils who have completed their GCSEs this year after putting in so much hard work.

“Their efforts are of course supported by the commitment and skill of all our fantastic teaching and schools staff.

“Once again we are extremely proud of all that the borough’s schools have achieved.”
