Two people from Potters Bar have been arrested following an investigation into a missing dog, which police believe may have been stolen.
The dog, a one-year-old black and white French bulldog called Gordon, went missing from his home in Worley Road, St Albans, between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday, August 13.
Hertfordshire Constabulary say the dog was allegedly found and, between 3pm and 4pm, taken to an address in Potters Bar where it was believed his owner lived.
Officers made enquiries at the address but the dog could not be found.
A 55-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation, and a 53-year-old man arrested on suspicion of theft.
Both have been released on police bail until September 30.
PC Clare Lapenna is investigating the incident and said: “Understandably the owners of Gordon are distressed by the loss of their pet and want to be reunited with him as quickly as possible.
“I would ask anyone with any information about this incident or the possible whereabouts of Gordon to contact me as soon as possible.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
