An appeal for witnesses and information has been launched after a man was hit by a bus in East Finchley.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene on the A1000 High Road, above the North Circular Road, at 7.30am today.

The man, 38, was attempting to cross the road and stepped off the footpath when he was hit by the bus, officers said.

He was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The bus driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.
