Two big-hearted eight-year-olds have donated ten inches of their hair to make wigs for sick children.

Maya Bruck and Iman Salam, pupils at Monkfirth Primary School in Knoll Drive, Southgate, went for the chop after seeing children lose their hair after chemotherapy on television.

The hair will go to the Little Princess Trust and the sponsorship money raised will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Maya said: “I don’t like seeing children ill or losing their hair.”

Iman said when she saw the children on television it made her want to give her hair away.

Maya’s mother, Talya Bruck, said: “Both girls have done incredibly well. I’m very proud.”

“It’s a big thing.”

Before the event, Maya said she was nervous about the haircut and she would be “relieved” when it was over.

Both girls have now been left with short bobs.

Iman’s mother, Lina, said: “She loves her short hair – she’s really happy with it. It went really well, such a fantastic event.”

They also held a fundraising tea and have so far raised £450 – but hope that once the money pledged has been collected they will raise £1,000.

The girls will be telling the school about their charity efforts in assembly as the new term starts.
