PEOPLE came together to run a charity race for a cancer charity that helped their families through tough times.

Jason Lipman and his brother-in-law, Joe Hilton, took on the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday for Chai Cancer Care, in Great North Way, Hendon.

They were two of four runners who raised £6,000 for the charity, which looks after people undergoing cancer treatment and their family.

Jason and Joel who ran in memory of their grandpa Ray raised a combined total of nearly £3,000 in sponsorship money.

Jason covered the route in 1 hour and 59 minutes – just under his two hour target.

He said: “This was my first half marathon. All round it was a great experience, from the first training run to the main event, and it was special to share with my brother in-law, Joel.

“We both wanted to give back to Chai for the incredible work they did for our Grandpa Ray when he was struggling, and to honour his memory and the things he did not only for us, but our entire family while he was alive.

“He was a truly generous, kind hearted man who lived for his family and I am sure he enjoyed watching us run. It was a pleasure to be able to give back in this way and a great achievement to remember as well.”

Lionel and Ben Davis ran in memory of close friend and Godmother, Debra Persey. Debra died of from breast cancer last year and benefitted from Chai’s services.

The father and son duo raised over £4,900, which will be split between Chai and Macmillan Cancer Care.

They said: “Chai is there to help others like Debra and their families. No one should be left to cope with that kind of ordeal without their specialist support.”

Louise Hager, Chai’s chairman, said: “I’d like to congratulate and thank our dedicated Chai runners for taking part. The Royal Parks Half Marathon is a great event and an excellent opportunity to really make a difference.
