PEOPLE will be given tips on how to avoid fly-tipping and help improve the environment.

The Loop Reuse Hub has been set up in the Grahame Park Estate, Colindale, for people to donate their unwanted items instead of throwing them away.

They will be shown how they can be fixed, reused or recycled and organisers hope this will reduce rubbish in the area.

Tayler Groom, a representative at Groundwork London, said: “The Loop began after fly tipping started becoming a problem all over the city.”

“The Loop is one of five reuse hubs across London. Groundwork recruited members of different communities to help set this hub up from areas that included, Barnet, Hackney, Hammersmith and Camberwell.”

“Instead of letting unwanted household items go to waste, The Loop will pick up items that are in good condition for free and then resell and recycle them.”

It is also being run by Genesis Housing and the London Community Resource Network.

The scheme will also run training sessions to give people tips on how to reuse items more.

The service, which is free and available for all residents to use, also began a free doorstep collection service on October 15.

The Loop will accept wooden furniture in a fit for re-use condition, clean sofas and working white goods.

The hub cannot accept mattresses, gas appliances or soft furnishings that do not have a fire safety label attached.

A full list of accepted items can be downloaded on the website: www.theloops.london.
