Barnet Council’s strategic director for commissioning is leaving her role.

Kate Kennally, who first joined the authority in 2006, has been appointed as the new chief executive of Cornwall Council.

She will take up the role in January.

Ms Kennally said: “Being offered the post of chief executive of Cornwall Council provides a once in a life time opportunity to make a difference to a distinct and beautiful place that I love.

“I am a passionate believer in the importance of public services working together to improve the lives of local people by creating thriving local communities, brilliant schools that enable children to succeed, and joined up services that focus on the needs of individuals.”

She has held a number of roles in Barnet Council, including director of adult social services, director of children’s services, and strategic director for communities.

Andrew Travers, chief executive of Barnet Council, said: “This is a major, and much deserved, achievement for Kate. She has made a huge contribution across the full range of the council's activities and will leave many friends in Barnet. I wish her all the best in her new role at Cornwall.”
