A young woman says she hopes to get people “foot tapping” to one of her own songs when she performs at a major charity talent competition next month.

Nicola Mousicos, 17 from East Barnet, says she has performed in front of crowds before – and is releasing her first EP soon – but says that she has never performed in anything like the upcoming North London’s Got Talent – in aid of North London Hospice – before.

The Hospice, which operates across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, is running the talent competition to raise money to help care for its patients, and Ms Mousicos, who is currently studying for her A-Levels, says she is very excited about performing.

She said: “I’m going to be performing an original song, called ‘Head Over Heels’. It is a happy song, I hope it will get people foot tapping. The song has been written for about a year – I just want to get people smiling.

“I don’t really have a relationship with the hospice personally, but I’ve grown up in Barnet and I know they are a great cause.

“I heard about the competition in a music shop in High Barnet, and I immediately wanted to do it. I’m really looking forward to it, and to see what everyone else is doing.”

Ms Mousicos said that she has loved music, and has sang and played the guitar for years – appropriate, given her name means ‘Musician’ in Greek.

North London's Got Talent' which will take place at the artsdepot in North Finchley on Saturday, 6 February.
