STUDENTS at a secondary school won £1,500 for Jewish charities.
Pupils at Hasmonean High School, in Holders Hill Road, Hendon, had to pitch six different charities to a panel of judges as part of a scheme run by First Give.
The judges included the school’s headteacher Debbie Lebrett.
Those taking part were told to identify social issues in the area and engage with charities that interest them.
Volunteer emergency medical service Hatzola won the top prize of £1,000, whilst disabilities charity Norwood and Chai Cancer Care finished as runners-up, both taking home £250 each.
Rabbi Gary Liss, the teacher who led the programme, said: “As a teacher I felt incredibly proud of the students and they displayed maturity beyond their years.
“It also gave the boys a greater sense of community and appreciation for the wonderful work that was going on in their community.”
