More than 300 students attended a careers fair at a high school in Edgware.

Some 40 organisations were represented during the event at Canons High School, in Shaldon Road.

Students from Years 10,11, 12 and 13 were invited to look around the stalls and talk to employers, some of whom were former students at Canons High themselves.

Kim Travers, head of human resources for Transport for London, opened the event.

Breda Nuttall, careers manager at the school, said the organisations involved were very pleased with the level of engagement from students and impressed with the questions they came up with.

She said: "Already, students are following up on the links they’ve made and for some this will lead to future job opportunities.

"Last year a former student who was then studying engineering at Queen Mary came along, spoke to Crossrail, and is now on their graduate programme.

"It was great that this year he attended the fair as a representative of Crossrail.

"Another former student who is currently in his third year of a School Leaver Programme with EY, represented them at the fair and was able to advise students about his pathway.

"As careers manager it’s my objective to introduce students to people and experiences to inspire them to become motivated learners, and events like this one really do make a difference."
