A candlelit parade to mark Holocaust Memorial Day was attended by nearly 200 people.

The ceremony was led by Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Martin Worster, along Manor Road and Drakes Road, Potters Bar, ending with musical performances at the Wyllyotts Theatre.

Hertsmere Police Cadets also helped organise the parade, on January 27.

After a two-minute silence both the mayor and leader of the council, Cllr Morris Bright gave speeches along with a selection of videos and stories.

Mayor Cllr Worster said: ‘’The candlelit parade and ceremony gave us all the opportunity to remember the millions who have been affected by the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides.

‘’The parade and ceremony provided a fitting opportunity for everyone who forms part of our diverse community here in Hertsmere to come together and understand the relevance of these atrocities, even in modern times.’’

The parade’s theme, ‘don’t stand by’, helped people reflect on the Holocaust but also encouraged locals to take responsibility and not be bystanders to any hate crime or prejudices.
