A DRUM and bass band brought a bit of music to the classroom when they gave an inspirational speech to students.

Rudimental visited The Pavilion Centre, Meadway, High Barnet, to share stories about their school days and give them tips on how to break it into the music industry.

Band members Piers Aggett and Kesi Drydon, who are members of the band, also spent time playing football with the students.

Both admitted they experienced difficulty during their school lives but found solace and comfort in their musical talents.

Kesi said: “When I was at school, I was only interested in music and football, literally nothing else. Most of the lessons I couldn’t really engage in as they didn’t interest me.”

Piers was excluded from school for a short time but said his music teacher never lost hope in him and kept him going.

When asked about the band’s success, he said: “The journey was mad. When I was in school I wasn’t really good at doing exams.

“I wasn’t really great at putting my focus into maths, science and English, however those things are important. I found Kesi and other friends that were into music.”

The pair started making music together when they were 18 but their careers did not take off until they were 26.

After the talk, both posed for photos and signed autographs for the students, who are unable to attend mainstream school due to social, emotional or medical problems.
