An 84-year-old good Samaritan died after he stopped to help a broken down car.

Rodney Lewis, who lived in Enfield, was driving along Colney Hatch Lane, Friern Barnet, when he spotted the black Ford Fiesta in the road,  on February 3.

He stopped to help but before he could get out the car, a black VW Passatt hit the Hyndai and the Fiesta.

Mr Lewis died at the scene and a 77-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Hyndai is in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the VW Passatt, a 51-year-old woman, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving.

She has been bailed to return to a date in mid-May.
