The Polish consul in London came to Finchley last week to celebrate the twinning of Finchley and Krakow Rotary Clubs.
Alongside Consul Janusz Wach, the Finchley club also welcomed three Polish Rotarians at a celebratory reception on Monday evening, opened by Mayor Maureen Braun.
Club membership and international secretary Filip Slipaczek said the purpose of the twinning was to foster international fellowship and promote joint charitable ventures.
He said: "There's been a huge influx of people from Poland coming into this country and what we are trying to say is hold on, Poland is a centre of excellence'. Krakow has probably the highest concentration of students in Europe, with five universities. The idea was to find out a little bit more about what Poland is."
Dr Jan Mokrzycki, president of The Federation of Poles in Great Britain, gave a talk about the city of Krakow, Poland's former capital, and the contribution made by Polish people to the UK.
