NEIGHBOURS are fighting plans to build a new nursery over fears it will put children at risk and lead to more “parking nightmares”.

Plans for the new pre-school at the old Alma School site, on the corner of Moss Hall Grove and Nether Street, West Finchley, have been submitted to Barnet Council.

If approved, the new three-floor building will be used by 120 children and up to 35 teachers - but will not include any parking spaces.

The area is already clogged with traffic and parked cars during the school run and there are there fears the added pressure will make it unbearable.

A letter sent to residents said: “Traffic pollution and parking around the Moss Hall schools is already at crisis point.

“Yet the business man who has submitted this application is claiming parking spaces are already available.

“There are nearly 1,000 families coming to the Moss Hall schools twice every day as well as numerous after school clubs - can we really accommodate more traffic?

The nursery will be open from 7am until 7pm, sparking concerns the safety of children will be compromised.

It added: “Parking nightmares will start even earlier and go on until later.”

The application has already drawn 63 objections, with many describing the proposals as “unacceptable” and “crazy”.

One said: “I am appalled by the application of a nursery building and its negative impact on our neighbourhood.

“A building with no parking facilities will impact negatively on the already heavily congested streets.

“The added traffic will put the safety of my child at risk when he goes to school.”

The Times Series has requested comment from RD Architects, acting on behalf of applicant William Zuckerberg.
