A community concert raised £800 for a church roof that is urgent need of repair.

Church members at St Mary-at-Finchley Parish Church, Hendon Lane, are working hard to raise £44,800 to fix the roof of the grade two listed building.

A free concert was held last Saturday, where guitarist Fabio Bartoloni was joined by duo Lucatelle-Bartoloni for a musical evening.

Professional singer Alison Fisher is director of music at the Church and is training for a 10k run in July, to help the church raise even more money.

Ms Fisher, 51, said: “The evening was great and we had a good turnout with over 100 people, we are very pleased.

“New people came to the church which is great as we always welcome new people, and they said they wanted to come back. ‘It is great for Finchley as a community and place that the community gets involved in things like this.

“At the moment, we are raising money for the roof because we need a lot to repair it. We raised money for our organ years ago, and now we have to cover it each time it starts raining to protect it, and even put out buckets to catch water.”

Charity events had raised more than £100,000, but now, the church turns has turned their attention to its roof, and more money is needed.

Buckets are often needed to catch the water when rain starts seeping in.

A royal tea party will take place on Sunday June 26 and a car rally will take place on July 17.

Frances Musker, a former lecturer at the Victoria and Albert Museum will also host another historic fashion show later this year.
