AN ALL-GIRLS school which received a low-rated report will welcome a new head teacher.

Copthall School in Mill Hill has chosen Evelyn Forde to take up the post in September.

Ms Forde held a number of senior roles at various London schools before Copthall's governors elected her to take over from acting head Jane Smallwood, who was praised by the chair of governors.

She said: “I am looking forward to delivering outstanding outcomes for every student.

“Schools can, and must, transform the life chances of their students and ensure they become successful adults who will contribute to their community.”

Ms Forde’s appointment is one of many changes to the school recently as its governing body was rebuilt.

In March, education watchdog Ofsted gave the school, in Pursley Road, the second lowest rating - requires improvement.

It dropped one grade from its last inspection in 2010 when it was judged as ‘good’.

The report outlined how the most disadvantaged pupils did not make the progress they should and how teachers lacked a sense of “urgency”.

It also criticised school governors as not holding teaching staff to account.
