LADIES trying to keep fit in Potters Bar have run together to raise over £1,000 for charity.

Members of the Slimming World Potters Bar group joined the Race for Life event in Oakmere Park on July 16 and ran 5km to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.

The Potters Bar groups' race was part of a wider ‘Slimming World does Race for Life’ event across the UK between July 9 and 24.

The event aimed to raise awareness of how keeping a healthy weight can improve health, including reducing the risk of developing ten types of cancer.

Slimming World consultant Mel Lambert said: "I’m so pleased with how much we raised for Cancer Research UK and I think the event showed people just how motivating being part of a Slimming World group like ours can be.

“Many of our members wouldn’t have dreamed of even wearing a pair of trainers before they lost weight and now look at them.”

Last year’s record for the group was £600, which they said they were proud to beat this year.

Participants invited friends and family to join them in the run and many more watched from the side, cheering the runners on.

It was not a competitive race and those taking part could choose the distance they wanted to cover.
