A group of birdies will play four rounds of golf in just one day in memory of an “amazing woman.”

The team of eight will tee off on Monday, August 8, and will work their way through four golf courses in North London.

‘Mandy’s Fore Birdies’ are made up of five women, plus three new players, who will play in memory of their good friend Mandy Fisher, who died from ovarian cancer in February this year.

The team launched their one day golf event last year, and raised more than £35,000 for three charities.

One team member, Diana Rubin, was friends with Mandy for over 40 years and the pair started playing golf before they were teenagers.

Ms Rubin said: “Mandy and I met through Dyrham golf club in Barnet when I was 12, and she was just 10-years-old. When she moved into the flat above where I lived, we couldn’t get away from each other, and have been friends ever since.

“All the money we raise from this year’s event will go towards three charities that were meaningful to Mandy. The North London hospice cared for Mandy in her last few weeks, and we even had a tea party for her there on February 1, when she turned 57.

“Mandy was amazing, she never complained. She was always smiling, always positive. Always ‘just Mandy’.

“People we don’t even know have been donating to us, and it really is humbling. We have already raised more than £23,000 for this year’s event, and are hoping to take it nationally next year.”

The money will also go towards the Alzheimer’s society, as Mandy’s father was diagnosed with onset dementia when he was 49-years-old and Mandy was only 12.

Her mother, Morella Kayman MBE, co-founded the Alzheimer’s Society and in 2013, she was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the First Women Awards ceremony.

The third chosen charity is Dr Sarah Blagden's fund, who was Mandy’s oncologist.

Dr Blagden carries out her research at Oxford University and the money will help fund this work.

The Fore Birdies will begin their golfing day from 5am at Hartsbourne country club in Bushey, with four other ladies from that club, before heading to Mill Hill and Hendon golf clubs.

They are aiming to finish the day at Dyrham Golf club, in Galley Lane, Barnet around 7.30pm, before enjoying a sponsored cocktail party.
