A TEACHER from Mill Hill who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer has started a campaign to raise women’s awareness of the disease.

#loveyourovaries, started by primary school teacher Laura Moses, is an online campaign started on her blog Finding Cyril on which she writes about her life with cancer.

It asks women to share a photo of themselves making a heart shape with their hands over their stomach.

Alongside this, they are asked to list the symptoms of ovarian cancer they already know and nominate other people to do the same.

The 27-year-old said: “I hope by everyone doing this, we can fill the gaps in people’s knowledge and make women more aware of the signs and risks.

“It’s a weird and strange thing to happen, especially at my age, so I hope this can go viral – the more people who do it, the more people become aware.”

Symptoms of ovarian cancer can include irregular periods or vaginal bleeding after menopause, loss of appetite, back pain, constant need to urinate, permanent abdominal bloating and lower stomach pain.

Laura’s online posts also encouraged people to donate £2 to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity by texting FICY58 to 70070.
