A young chairman has said goodbye after five years serving on the Youth Council.

Jackie Warman has been part of the Elstree and Borehamwood Youth Council for five years but now has decided to end his time there.

In the past, the council has been responsible for the implementation of the Borehamwood skate park, and has been in touch with helping the community, be in in charity work and helping, and raising money for charities such as Mencap.

He said: “I have seen people come and people go, and have been a part of something which has a say in our local community. I have seen people grow up.

“I am moving on myself now, and am saying goodbye to the council.

“For the past year I have been the chairman, which means that during our meetings, I over viewed the ideas brought up and planned by the Youth Council and put them forward to councillors to see them come to fruition.

“For example, we wished to improve the appearance of the Borehamwood train station, and so with the collaboration of the First impressions project, we were able to have new benches installed around the station, have planters installed with flowers and flora just outside of the station.

“Also we have aesthetically changed aspects of the town such as upturned mud around the train station covered up with bark, making the overall appearance of the station more welcoming and up kept.”

The Youth Council works alongside the Town Council in Borehamwood but now they are struggling with numbers.

Jackie said: “It is something which I am glad to have been a part of, it gave me a chance to express opinions about the local council, and gave me a chance to understand how internal affairs work, as well as educating me greatly about politics.

“Yet most important of all, it allowed me to meet some wonderful, like-minded people who have been fantastic to work with, and have become great friends.

“We plan to continue working towards the betterment of our community, and you can also be a part of it.

“It has been a wonderful time, and I wish that the Youth council continues to offer as much benefit and continues to operate just as well into the future.”
