A man is urging elderly and vulnerable people to be more aware of rogue traders.

Richard Jarvis, of Hertforde Road, Borehamwood, has been showing a DVD showing people how to prevent themselves becoming victims of rogue trading since 2008.

Mr Jarvis, who has been attending neighbour hood watch meetings selling electronic goods since 2006, heard police were not going to show the DVD and decided to volunteer himself to educate the elderly and vulnerable.

He said: "I have seen what happens to victims of rogue trading and it is not very nice to see.

"I have travelled all over Hertfordshire showing elderly and vulnerable people this DVD as they are the main victims of rogue trading.

"I cannot believe police did not want to show this video. I got into this because I grew up being told to respect the older members of the community."

Mr Jarvis believes the elderly community are the main victims as they let people in without thinking twice.

He also said the solution is to try and prevent it by informing people about what these rogue traders do.

Mr Jarvis has been asked to present the DVD to a group of residents in 96 Shenley Road, Borehamwood.

Despite Mr Jarvis volunteering his own time to show people the DVD rogue traders are still targeting the vulnerable and elderly.

He said: "The thing with rogue traders is they come to a place and then leave but others come back.

"It is hard to stop them but by showing people this DVD I can at least help reduce the amount of victims."

Mr Jarvis has also tried to show the DVD to people in Barnet but the Metropolitan Police said they have their own video but Mr Jarvis asked why they do not show it them.

The DVD has been shown to a variety of people over the past nine years and Mr Jarvis is not giving up showing the video.
