A Barnet-born RAF pilot killed during the Second World War died over 75 years ago.

Killed aged 19 on October 27 1940, Robert Basil Dewey is one of three pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain to be buried in the military section of St Andrews church in Hornchurch, Essex.

With the anniversary of his death tomorrow, Tony Philpot, of Kempton Avenue, Hornchurch, is looking for any relatives of the pilot who was born in Barnet sometime in June 1921 to Allen and Violet (nee King) Dewey.

Pilot Officer Dewey flew as part of the 603 squadron from the former Hornchurch aerodrome which now contains housing estates and has a walk named after him in the area.

He is the nephew of a Mr E.W. Dewey and his parents married in Hackney in March 1919.

In September this year, PO Dewey was commemorated alongside fellow pilots John William Broadhurst and Claude Waller Goldsmith, who also served from Hornchurch and were killed in the Battle of Britain.
