The Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council has approved grants for various community groups around the town.

At the full council meeting on November 16 the elected representatives picked seven groups to give some of their community grants to.

The Borehamwood Women's Institute was given £300 to spend on craft materials and EBLOS musical theatre group was given a £500 grant to use for hall hire.

All Saints Church was given £558 for lighting and the Youth Carers at Hertswood School was given £1,000 with £500 given from the Youth Council, for their activities costs.

Up to £300 was given to Elstree and Borehamwood Community Charity to fund a cookery course at Hertswood School and £250 was given to DR96 over 60s club for the hiring of a hall and a teacher.

The final community group Funky Friends was given £316.46 for their running costs.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Mrs P Strack, said “The Town Council is proud to support local organisations that make a difference in the Community – whether in the areas of entertainment, club activities, support for senior citizens and other vulnerable groups.

"These organisations make Elstree and Borehamwood such a great place in which to live, work and visit."

The Council is keen to hear from other groups that might wish to make an application in the final tranche of 2016/17. To apply for an award, applications must be submitted by January 4, 2017.
