Bus routes in Barnet could be set for a major lift if residents are ready to fight their case, according to the borough’s shadow Assembly member.

Transport for London has launched a consultation on proposed changes to 23 central London bus routes to better match bus services with demand from passengers.

Initial proposals take into account reduced usage of buses in London’s travel zone one and the increased use of services such as the Night Tube or the newly developing Elizabeth line and Crossrail 2 as alternatives.

As a result, reworking the bus routes in London would likely see increased service to the outer boroughs where bus use is more prevalent.

Andrew Boff, the shadow Assembly member for Barnet is now urging borough residents to make their voices heard to TfL, making sure the area benefits from route revisions.

He said: “More buses in Barnet is something I wholeheartedly welcome.

“This change will lower congestion in key points of central London, such as Oxford Street, and provide outer London with shorter waits and newer bus routes.

“This increased capacity provides a great opportunity for Barnet residents to reshape public transport to fit our modern needs.

“I’m calling on all outer London residents to tell TfL where they think these extra buses should go.

“Be it a new route for a local school, or increasing the number of buses to help ease congestion on your morning commute; be proactive and make sure TfL hears your opinion.”

Any changes to bus services would start to be introduced from summer next year.
