Footage from the Instagram account of a motorcyclist whose dangerous driving killed an elderly man has been release, providing stunt-oriented showmanship was in fact his “style”.

Luke Stella, of St Albans, was sentenced to four years in prison last Wednesday (November 30) for causing the death of 71-year-old Francis Abbott in a collision in Potters Bar.

Mr Abbott had been crossing the street in Mutton Lane on April 14, 2014 when Stella drove down the road on his motorcycle and hit him – he later died in hospital.

Despite eyewitness reports saying they had seen Stella speeding and performing a wheelie on his motorcycle just before the incident, Stella insisted it wasn’t his “style” upon questioning by police.

However, video evidence taken from his Instagram account, dated February 2014, shows Stella performing exactly the kind of trick he denied pulling on the day of the collision.

Throughout his week-long trial at St Albans crown court, Stella continued to deny his charges.

District crown prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Phillip Mansfield said: “The level of Stella’s riding demonstrated a complete disregard for other road users and led directly to him colliding with Mr Abbott causing him fatal injuries.

“This case highlights the serious consequences of driving in such a reckless, inconsiderate and dangerous manner.

“I hope the conviction and sentence will in some way help Mr Abbott’s family and friends come to terms with this tragic event.

“My thoughts are very much with them all at this time.”
