A man with a gun held a woman and two teenage girls in their home during a seven-hour siege.

Last night (December 5) around 11.50pm, a man refused to co-operate with police when they came to the house in Sylvan Grove, Cricklewood, to make an arrest.

He was believed to be in possession of a firearm, keeping a woman in her 40s and two 14-year-old girls in the house with him.

Armed police and a negotiator came to the house and closed off nearby roads.

Around 6.50am this morning (December 6), the police entered the house, arrested the 31-year-old man and recovered the firearm.

No one was injured.

He has been arrested for recall to prison, as well as on suspicion of rape and threats to kill. He is currently being held in a north London police station.

Borough commander for Brent Chief Superintendent Mick Gallagher said: "Officers acted professionally in what was a difficult situation which thankfully ended in a safe resolution with no one harmed.

"Police would like thank the local community for their co-operation throughout the operation."

All nearby roads have now been reopened.
