More than 80 people gathered outside in the cold to watch the Christmas lights being turned on down their street.

The neighbours along Leeming Street, in Borehamwood, braced the cold to see Santa and his elves turn on the Christmas lights.

Hertsmere Borough Cllr Michelle Vince said not as many people turned up as they did last year but she is expecting a big turnout for the Manor Way switch-on on Sunday.

She said: “Saturday was the wrong day for the switch-on. We believe most people would have still been Christmas shopping.

“Santa was a students from Hertswood School and will be Santa again this Sunday. It was a very cold evening but it was great.”

On Sunday, the Christmas lights down Manor Way will be switched on and there will be entertainment by local comedian Chloe Driver.

Cllr Vince said: “Chloe has kindly donated her services and will also be performing a Christmas magic act for the children.

“A nursery has also said they will bake cakes. Tesco and Morrisons will also be donating cakes.”

The lights will be switched on at 5pm on Sunday.
