London looks set to be hotter than Madrid as the capital shakes off the recent winter frosts.

According to forecasts from the Met Office, temperatures will be around 12C during the day from Wednesday (December 7) through to the weekend and up to 7C at night.

Forecasts predict London will be warmer than the Spanish capital where temperatures are only expected to reach around 10C on Thursday.

The unexpected double-figure temperatures will be down to a south-western maritime tropical air mass which is due to hit the UK in the middle of the week.

However, the mass does mean the capital is likely to be wetter than usual.

Average temperatures for London in December are 4.95C, meaning this week may be more than twice as hot as the usual December.

Public Health England had issued a warning about the cold snap urging people to be prepared and remember “cold does kill”.
