A man has been left blind in one eye after a violent attack on New Year’s Day.

Ali Doostizadeh, of New Southgate, was at Alexandra Palace to celebrate with friends on New Year’s Eve, standing by the ice rink on the south terrace of the grounds.

Around 1.30am on January 1, the 24-year-old went to break up a nearby fight when he was struck in the face with a bottle.

The laceration caused in Mr Doostizadeh’s right eye has left it blind.

He was taken to an East London hospital by family and is still being treated for his injuries.

Police believe people may have been taking photos and videos in the vicinity as it was New Year’s Eve and are asking anyone who might have an image of the attacker to come forward.

The suspect is described as Asian, in his late teens, 5ft 10ins tall with dark brown hair, wearing an orange and white striped coat.

Detective Constable Ian Cant, from Haringey CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked attack on a young man who was celebrating the New Year with friends.

“The suspect was wearing a very distinctive coat and I would ask anyone who was at Alexandra Palace and took photographs to check the images to see whether he is in the background.

“Any piece of information may help to identify the suspect so that we can speak with him.”

Anyone with information or who witnessed the assault is asked to contact police via 101 or on Twitter at @MetCC.
