After their first success in September a group of gymnasts achieved qualifying results in the latest competition.

The High Springers Trampoline and Gymnastics club, based in Borehamwood, entered 11 gymnasts for a competition on January 15.

All gymnast achieved qualifying scores in their two flights. Some of the group competed against more than 25 other participants most of which were all in the top 20 to 25 per cent.

Three boys in particular had done so well they placed in the top three competitors. Alex Jamieson came first in the 13 to 14years Level 6 competition, James Obern, from Borehamwood, also came first in the 9 to 10 years Level 1 category and Miles McTighe-Moore, from Bushey, achieving came second place Level 1.

Those who achieve the qualifying score as well as being in the top three have to complete a range and conditioning routine compromising of splits, stretches and strength exercises. After lots of hard work Miles passed this and now has a chance to attend the semi-finals.

Charlotte Canniford, head coach at High Springers, said: "The boys were extremely hard in training and are always wanting to win and nothing less.

"Although never a fan of doing the stretching and conditioning I think they were thankful for this when it came to it on the day. Some of the competitors had been trampolining for most of their younger years, these guys have only been doing it for around two to three years. A fantastic result for all. So proud of them."

Richard Webb, who has been in the sport for more than 20 years, also gained a British title in 2011 with numerous medals and trophies both international and national level has been working hard with the squad in the last couple of months.

He said: "We had seen a massive improvement in all of our squad and it is always nice to watch and see all the hard work pay off.

"We have a range of different abilities and levels in the squad and are continuing to grow. We have high hopes for the team and will continue to progress towards those aims."
