A grandson is continuing in his efforts to raise as much money for Macmillan cancer in memory of a very special woman.

Hayes Rees, 31, of Barnet, will take part in a memory walk for his grandmother in April this year.

Hayes' grandmother, Patricia Jean Hill, was diagnosed with lung cancer and died in June 2010.

Ms Hill worked as a cleaner with Harrow council offices and was known for her community work in North Finchley.

His grandmother was a part of a group of residents campaigning for bus stop near Sunny Way, Finchley.

In May 2013, Hayes Rees was able to continue his grandmother's hard work, and the 382 bus service towards Finchley Central was finally achieved.

His just giving page has raised more than £500, but to date he has raised thousands for Macmillan and wants to raise even more.

Mr Rees said: "She raised me and she was like my mother. When she was diagnosed, Macmillan cancer were a great help to her and to me.

"I cannot tell you how much they helped my Nan, and when she die, they were and still are, a great support to me.

"My nan was an inspiration to me,and I miss her so much, I don't think I will ever really be over her death.

"I am trying to be strong for her."

Hayes is trying to raise as much money for a Macmillan nurse to support someone else who is affected by cancer

He added: "I walked from Greenwich to the Houses of Parliament last year, I had green spray paint in my hair and it took me more than five hours.

"But MacMillan are like a family to me, and I would help them raise money in any way I can.

"I also want to thank Barnet Cllr Agnes Slocombe and Haringey Cllr Sheila Peacock for their continued help the fundraising."

He is also organising his first Macmillan gala on October 21.
